Memorial's Fisher, Hurley lead 2024 Fans Choice All-Area team as player and coach of the year

Saturday December 28, 2024

As selected by 93 fans, Memorial headlined AlmanacSports.com's ninth annual Southwestern Indiana Fans Choice All-Area Football Team with eight selections including Player and Coach of the Year!

Player of the Year: Matthew Fisher (Memorial)

Matthew Fisher became the third Tiger to be voted Player of the Year for Southwestern Indiana. The senior quarterback was named all-state, the Courier & Press' All-Metro Player of the Year, the SIAC Player of the Year, the Downtown Quarterback Club's Most Outstanding Player and of course the AlmanacSports.com All-Area Player of the Year.

Also earning Player of the Year honors for Memorial were Michael Lindauer in 2017 and 2018 and Brock Combs in 2019. It was the second year in a row that an Evansville player won the honors (Bosse's Elijah Wagner won last year).

Coach of the Year: John Hurley (Memorial)

After guiding the Tigers to an 11-1 season including SIAC and city titles, readers once again voted John Hurley as the coach of the year. Finishing his 17th year with the Tigers, Hurley also won coach of the year honors in 2019 and this is the first time since then that an Evansville coach has won. Hurley was also honored as the SIAC, Courier & Press All-Metro and Evansville Downtown Quarterback Club's coach of the year.
